Digitalization, standards and the maritime industrial ecosystem’s upcoming challenges.

OSA Andes is back in Mundo Marítimo’s spotlight, this time to speak out about the fundamental role of joint ventures between the traditional shipping industries and those who hold the digital know-how, in order to bridge the digitalization gaps.

In a context where digitalization is no longer a promise, rather than a necessity, the maritime industry faces the challenge of carrying all ideas to execution. In conversation with MundoMaritimo, a local maritime media, Osa Andesheld as experts that all challenges are not about lack of vision, because everyone is looking the right way, they’re about implementation.

“The problem is not the lack of purpose, it’s the gap between technological potential and the industry’s complex operative reality”, they assured. That breach, they added, can be broken down to 3 axes: the traditional process inertia, the lack of connection between technological knowledge and maritime knowledge, and the information silos paradigm.

In that sense, for OSA Andes, the true digitalization requires the industry to overcome that breach between the tech theory and the logistical practice. The goal is to build an ecosystem where the information may flow freely between actors and systems, without losing trust nor traceability.

“The greatest cultural challenge is to get from seeing the information as an isolated asset to understanding it as a shared resource bound to generate efficiency", they clarify. This vision, based in collaboration and interoperability, aligns with all international efforts to standardize digital processes through organizations such as the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA).
